The story tells about a two brave brothers, Subali and Sugriwa. They have a duty from God Indra to kill the giant, name Mahesa Sura. If they make it, God Indra will give them Godness Tara, as a present.
The giant Mahesa Sura is living in the cave. Subali goes into the cave to kill him, and Sugriwa waiting outside. Subali ordering to his brother Sugriwa, if he finds the river flows from the cave is red, it means the giant Mahesa Sura has been killed, and if is white, means Sugriwa is dead and fail to do his mission, so then he must block the cave access by closing it with the stones.
Inside the cave, Subali fights with Mahesa Sura and kills him by cutting his neck through a fierce battle. Since both of them are wounded, so the color of river mixes in red and white. Seeing that, Sugriwa thoughts two of them already died. Then he closes the gate with the stones and comes to God Indraclaiming his prize Godness Tara, for his successful mission.
Meanwhile, when Subali goes out the cave, he doesn't find Sugriwa. Realize that his brother tricked him and married with Dewi Tara, Subali enrages and challenge him to fight. However, he loses. Then he runs away to the forest and meets with Rama who is looking for Sinta. He makes an agreement, if Rama helps him to kill Sugriwa, he will aid Rama to find his wife. Rama agrees, and finally Sugriwa killed by him. At the end, Dewi Tara belongs to Subali, who is should be more deserved to get her.
